Budget Saver Recipe: Make your Own Hummus

Hummus is a delightful, healthy, and versatile snack.  For a long time Chris and I would spend easily $4-$6 a week on Hummus — until we discovered the happiness and endless possibilities of making your own!  Jalapeno & Cilantro, Roasted Red Pepper, Tomato Basil, and plenty of other that are on our radar to try….

Cilantro-Jalapeno Hummus

  • 1 (15 oz can) Garbanzo Beans
  • Tahini Paste (optional – make your own with 1 1/2 tbsp of sesame seeds &  1 tbsp of peanut oil)
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • fresh cilantro, handful
  • 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 1 jalapeno, remove the seeds if you don’t like it really spicy
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 small white onion
  • 1/4 c. Olive oil

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth.  Serve with pita chips, vegetables, crackers, etc.
